The War With Yourself

Writer's picture: Giovanna CapozzaGiovanna Capozza

Are you at war with yourself?

“The state of your life is nothing more than a reflection of your state of mind.”

My war went something like this:

  1. I’m not good enough

  2. I’m too fat

  3. I’m too ugly

  4. I’m not educated enough

  5. I’m not loveable

  6. I’m not smart enough

  7. I’m not pretty enough

And I’m sure countless more toxic thoughts that would cycle in and out.  How exhausting!!!

I mean really!  Even writing them out feels horrible.

An email today reminded of one of my favorite quotes by Marianne Williamson:“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world.”

So why do we fear this light within us?  Why do we sabotage our own happiness and ourselves?  I waited my whole life for some magic potion or genie to come out of a bottle and save me.  Instead I let the gremlins in my mind take over time and time again.

Where are you playing small?  Is your desire:

  1. losing weight

  2. changing jobs

  3. starting your own business

  4. moving to another home or country

  5. finding the relationship of your dreams

  6. leaving a bad relationship

  7. ending a toxic friendship

  8. finding your life’s purpose

  9. going for that big dream or goal

  10. enjoying a more full life

Are you defining yourself based on your negative self worth?  Based on this negative false persona that’s running your life?  It’s hard to break free of this, I know.  It’s actually innately threatening to make these kinds of changes to what has become your identity.  So what do we do?  How do we change this negative self-talk, this ruling unworthiness?

The good news is that the war with yourself only involves one person… YOU!  If you had to stop a war between a group of people it would be more difficult, you may have to call in the national guard!  YOU are the answer to making peace here, with yourself.

So, decide today that you’re going to be happy no matter what!  Decide today that you’re going to begin to change your mind.  Decide today that you will stop that negative chattering gremlins in your mind.  Here are two books that help me on this journey: Conscious Language by Robert Tennyson Stevens & Leveraging the Universe by Mike Dooley

Start creating your bliss today!
